Junior Golf Tour Works To Promote Sport In Thompson-Okanagan

The Zone 2 Junior Tour offers both boys and girls a chance to participate in a number of events that feature friendly competition…

Zone 2 conducts its own Junior Golf Tour from April through June at courses throughout the Thompson-Okanagan Region.

The 2023 Junior Tour starts at Sonora Dunes Golf Club Saturday, April 15th. Over the next seven weeks, another 11 events will be held culminating with the Zone Championship June 3-4 at Gallaghers Canyon.

Says Zone Chair & Jr. Coordinator, Ken Oleschuk, “The Junior Program is intended to promote the sport of golf with junior golfers in the Zone. They get to participate in a number of events that feature friendly competition. From this, they are able to raise their level of skill, learn golf etiquette on and off the course and most importantly have fun, enjoy golf and form lasting friendships.”

There have also been many players on the Tour who have gone on to compete at higher levels.

Continues Oleschuk, “Many of our juniors who have participated in the tour have received scholarships to Canadian and U.S. colleges."

ELIGIBILITY FOR PARTICIPATE
Boys must have a Handicap factor of 30 or lower; Girls must have a factor of 36 or lower. Juniors must be 18 or younger as of the date of the event they wish to participate in, reside within the zone and be a member of a club in good standing with British Columbia Golf or a member of British Columbia Golf’s Players Club.

THE COST
To defray zone expenses, there is an annual $50 registration fee for those juniors who are members of a Zone 2 Club. The registration fee is $55 for those juniors who are members of British Columbia Golf or Golf Canada Players Club.* The cost for each event is $50 and the two-day final Championship is $175.

*The difference in fees is due to the fact that member clubs pay Zone 2 dues which helps fund Zone 2 programs.
