Three Canadians Earn Cards At Crown Isle

The PGA TOUR Americas held their final Q-School last week in Courtenay with nine spots on the line and three Canadians including one Okanagan resident punched their tickets to the tour...

The PGA TOUR's developmental tour made its annual stop at Crown Isle June 11-14 and for the first time in a few years, a Canadian was not the medalist.

That honour went to the U.S.'s Daniel Hudson who posted four rounds in the 60's (-17 • 65 68 69 69 -271) over the par-72, 7025-yard layout. That first-round 65 allowed him to put it on cruise control for the remainder of the tournament and included a stretch of five birdies in a row from holes four through eight.

The low Canadian, and tournament runner-up, was 26-year-old Noah Steele from Kingston, Ontario (-13 • 68 73 64 70 - 275) who blistered the back nine during his third round with five birdies. Overall, he would post 21 birdies over the four days averaging more than five per round.

The next Canadian was 22-year-old amateur Piercen Hunt ( -10 • 73 66 68 71 - 278) who ended up tied for fourth. The Golf Canada national team member rebounded nicely from a jittery opening nine that included two bogeys and a double with three sub-par rounds.

The lone player from BC to earn 2024 playing privileges was the Cinderella story of the tournament and a definite player to watch.

Kelowna's Justin Towill (-7 • 69 68 72 72 - 281) took the ninth - and final - qualifying position with four rounds that can best be described as a bit of a roller coaster ride.

The 6-4, 230-pound lefty who played the last four years for the UBCO Heat (UBC - Okanagan Campus) had a first-round opening nine that included four birdies and three bogeys. His subsequent three rounds were highlighted by three eagles including one on a par-four. Over the same period, he would also post six bogeys and two doubles.

The member at Kelowna G&CC had been showing some signs of potential having won the Canada West Individual title in 2023 and a 12th place finish at his first Canadian University/College Championship.
